Ruth England

Head Teacher

Ruth England is currently the head teacher of Shuttleworth College in Burnley. An 11-16 high school in Padiham. Ruth is the Lancashire head teacher representative on the Careers and Enterprise head teacher board. Shuttleworth is also the lead school in Lancashire’s first careers hub.

Ruth’s background is languages. Having studied Spanish and French at Liverpool University in the 1990s. She spent several years working in Spain and South America before training to teach at King’s college London. Most of her early teaching career was spent in south and east London before moving up to the northwest.

Ruth is passionate about connecting the world of work to all young people. She works alongside the LEP, Careers and Enterprise Company and the enterprise advisor networks to evolve the best possible careers provision for young people.

Ruth is also chair of the Burnley head teachers group and represents the careers hub on the Lancashire school improvent board.
